Can we become a military state while retaining our freedoms? Why not become stronger and richer?

what i mean to say is, we obviously have reached a level of this "military state" already, and still retain a small amount of freedom.
(freedom to do what you want as long as you don't mind 20 fed employess watching you).

Power is retained by the affluent upper class and will never be relinquished, with that said the rest of us are told we have freedom only so that we are pacified to never have initiative to take on the responsibility to fight for it.

Add bureaucratic process to law making and politics in general, the system becomes convoluted, and the average person gets intimidated by such, and resorts to watching TV and accepting the limited choices her or she is presented.

The 2nd amendment was intended by the framers of the constitution such as Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Adams, et al, that the citizens be armed particularly for their defense against tyrannical government. The Police state is the muscle of such tyranny, and can never be allowed to bestow our freedoms, for the Constitution it self is a mere recognition of said freedoms inherent for justice and liberty, therefor the Bill of Rights is not the List of suggested privileges.

The larger and more powerful a nation becomes the more volatile it becomes (look at USSR) meaning more susceptible to collapse (perhaps we are seeing that now) with that said, the Federal government, created by the states, has grown too large and powerful for its own and our own good, negating the original intent of the US government - of the people, by the people and for the people.
