trace an item you bought to its source!?
Hii - for a school project i have to choose a popular item for sale and trace its origins (ie: raw materials, extraction, labor, retail costs vs true costs, etc) but I can't decide what to do. The video we watched used a radio as an example, and my teacher used an ipod. i want to choose something that chances are no one else has thought of. Or at least, something that will make an interesting paper. any ideas?

Sonds good to me, although why your question landed in genealogy is a mystery to me.
Heels and sneakers contain rubber. I was in Sarawak, Malaysia in 1971 and 1972. They grow and tap rubber trees. They collect the sap, mix it with some kind of acid, let it gel for a bit, run it through a device that looks like a wringer on a wringer washer, dry it in a smokehouse and send the sheets of "raw" rubber to the rest of the world, where they are melted down and made into pencil erasers, raincoats and - sneaker soles.
